A little more about Henry

Hello, my name is Henry Jean, LMFT #156680. I am a Licensed Bilingual Mental Health Clinician practicing in Orange County, California, and I use he/him/el pronouns. My clinical style is compassionately direct, collaborative, transparent, and grounded in helping clients feel seen, respected, and supported while also being challenged toward meaningful change.

I specialize in working with young adults and LGBTQIA+ individuals navigating identity development, emotional regulation, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, emotional detachment, self-destructive behaviors, and interpersonal difficulties. As a cisgender Latinx gay male clinician, I value culturally responsive and affirming care. I strive to create a therapy space where clients can explore how identity, family dynamics, relationships, shame, discrimination, and past experiences may influence how they cope, communicate, protect themselves, and connect with others.

My approach is strongly DBT-informed and rooted in the belief that acceptance and change can exist at the same time. In session, I focus on balancing validation with accountability, helping clients understand their emotions and behaviors without shame while also identifying what is getting in the way of the life they want to build. I use DBT skills such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, radical acceptance, self-compassion, and behavioral chain analysis to support clients in increasing emotional awareness, reducing impulsive or self-destructive patterns, and improving relationships.

I believe therapy works best when there is honesty, transparency, and active collaboration. I aim to be direct without being judgmental, supportive without avoiding hard conversations, and validating while still helping clients take responsibility for their choices and growth. My values in therapy include accountability without shame, compassion with clear boundaries, cultural humility, emotional honesty, and practical behavior change.

I received my Master of Science in Counseling from California State University, Fullerton, and have worked in community outpatient mental health settings since 2020, primarily serving low-income families and individuals with complex emotional, relational, and systemic needs. My clinical work is rooted in the belief that people are not broken; they are often adapting to painful experiences, invalidating environments, and survival-based patterns that can be understood, honored, and changed with the right support.
